its a cheap cap hit for andreoff, but who would take 3 years of clifford at 1.6m per? not sure many would take nolan either, but i feel like he's had more flashes of offensive hands than clifford or andreoff. maybe someone gets waived to ontario?

I think Nolan is more creative than given credit for. He brings more energy than any of our energy guys. Id try everything in our power to move Cliff and use that salary elsewhere.

Can someone explain to me why this team (year after year) decides that they don't need to find a Left Wing? The only real LW we have is Tanner Pearson.

Who says they have decided that? We're not even to free agent day yet.

re: Nolan - he is like a wild horse (especially with his gallopy stride) he's one of the guys on the roster that has never met a pass that he wanted to make. he is a one-track player, see the puck get the puck carry the puck lose the puck rinse repeat.

I don't like whats available for free agency...

but my outlandish suggestion would be to trade Muzzin, go after Shattenkirk or Alzner
then Sign Jagr and Bonino

Please no. Could have just kept Green for an immobile defensive RHD

Girardi is still a way better player than Greene. And nowhere near as slow at Greene either.

Draft wise, I do like the players we picked. Particularly excited for Vilardi (of course), Anderson-Dolan, Phillips, and Rymsha. Goalie could have been a reach, but goalie rankings are notoriously unpredictable. Hults seems to be out of nowwhere. Really could have used a RHD prospect, but overall I like our draft.

Re:Andreoff - can't understand the move. As you pointed out, his skillset is redundant with Nolan and Clifford, and I'd prefer both of them over him. Think his 8 goal year was an anomaly. If Brodzinski doesn't make the roster to give spots to all 3 of those guys, I'll be particularly disappointed. And I can't see a market to move any of them, Clifford and Nolan's contracts were comically long at the time considering they're replacement level grinders.

True, but not enough to bring him in (for me). His style just isn't current, I like our 6 we have or bring in a more mobile RHD (Stone, Franson) for a 2 yr max deal.

We have zero pure stay at home guys now. Well thats mostly Forbort now. But Girardi may cost less. But he seems to be more sought after than guys like Stone or Franson.

Yea, Clifford's deal was bad from the beginning, as likeable as he is. Hard to see him getting dealt, but they definitely should look into it. However, Nolan at 950K for one more year is very movable.

I'd take him for a bottom-pairing rate and given him bottom-pairing minutes, but I imagine he'll get better offers.

Jagr is resigning in Florida or not at all. The only reason he didn't sign yet was so they couldn't lose him to Las Vegas in the expansion draft without his consent.

I wonder if a deal between Vegas, Ottawa, and LA could really benefit the 3 teams. Look at the following:

To LA: Ryan, Phaneuf
To LV: Brown, Gaborik, 2018 LA 1st, 2018 Ott 2nd
To OTT: Martinez or Muzzin, Vegas conditional pick

Of course you could could take off Gaborik and the 1st or something alone those lines, but I think it serves the teams well. Phanuef and Ryan were amazing playoff performers and leaders but the Sens are a budget team and would benefit from the cap savings (could even include retaining Phaneuf for 1.2M to make the deal very valuable for the kings). I doubt Ryan gets moved but would be interesting.

Not that I like any of this. But I fail to see how Vegas would gain much out of this. Not to mention Ottawa with a conditional pick from Vegas?

can you explain why you don't like getting a 2nd line RW and Top 4D AND dump contracts at the same time? Not that this would happen but I think it makes sense.

Vegas would get a 1st for taking on a bad contract and brown is still a great character addition.

The fanbase crucified Lombardi for trading away several years of first round draft picks. There's no way that Blake will give up a 1st for that.

Ryan simply makes to much money. I like the player. But its uncertain if he will regain his game like it once was. Phaneuf is also to much money even with the 1.4mil retained or w/e you said. The contracts from OTT would arguably put LA in a worse salary situation.

I'm not suggesting that LA wouldn't be a better team. But 3 years from now Toff and Pearson are gonna need to be signed again. Doughty in 2 years.

Damn Vegas is already the 2nd highest cap team. Granted they wont be once they put Clarkson and Grabo on LTIR. Still kind of crazy.

Well, and they also have 10 defensemen currently under contract, not including Griffin Reinhart and Nate Schmidt that are RFAs and will get new contracts. At least 5 of those guys won't be on the roster when training camp closes and teams are required to be cap compliant.

I don't think the opening night roster of Vegas will look anything like what it does now. There's still a lot of moves left to be made.

I dont either. Its interesting to also think that the Caps lost 3 dmen from theyre NHL roster. That hurts.

So its quite annoying to see Dallas stole Methot. I'd hate to think that LA just missed out on this guy for nothing. I mean a 2020 2nd. Everybody would give that up. I feel like we're missing something.

Fail to see motivation for Vegas to take on two enormous contracts for that return. Have to ante up an Ottawa 1st for them to even think about it.

For LA, Ryan and Phaneuf do make them better team right now...but still not true Cup contenders. So what's the point of taking on those killer contracts?

For Ottawa, what a steal. Dump huge contracts + get a top-4 dman on a reasonable deal for just a 2nd? And they get extra pick?
